Modern furniture stores of today is usually embodied with the so-called modern style furniture design. But what does this term really mean and where did it come from?

From the period from 1930 to 1960 was a real revolution in furniture design style. Many people where choosing a living environment such as an apartment building or condo over a traditional full sized house as a living place. But what do they do with the furniture? Customers often racing from different stores in a desperate attempt to find something fitting to the size of their new homes. They also needed these new modern furniture’s to be both attractive yet functional.

However, all that they were able to find in the furniture stores were old school ,big monsters, which would just not fit in all living spaces.

Then a Swiss-born designer Le Corbusier practically revolutionized furniture design inventing, by introducing clean cubical forms to his new design collection. In these designs, one can see some similarities with traditional furniture design such as curled forms and cushioned armchairs, etc.

The revolutionary part however, was really using the new types of material to make all of that go together. Materials such as glass or plastic, metal l frames, etc.

Heavy traditional forms were often exchanged to lighter, breezier, more open versions. His designs still inspire a great deal of modern furniture designer in the creation of their new furniture designs and collections.

Contemporary furniture design invention was compared in the same regard as the revolutionary car shape in the car manufacturing industry.
